Depending on the age I would guess it was made by Savage or Marlin as those seem to be the major ones they carried for quite a long while at one point. Although if 1906 is a date of manufacture it could have been Meriden.

You don't see many Model 68's. I have a 67 which was my Grandpa's. It was seriously accurate with iron sights. I can't begin to tell you how many squirrels I shot with it, mostly head shots.
