I remember reading that some rules were broken when the Hughes Amendment was tacked on. Something about a non-passing vote being declared as passed, and some degree of absenteeism.

We still have the right to own machine guns, What no one can do is buy one made post may of 1986, given the effects of supply and demand that makes it prohibitively expensive to purchase one now but this is the response you will get from lawmakers. Nothing but your pocket book keeps you from owning one.

Which coupled with the limited supply effectively makes the regulation a defacto ban.

Once again though the title of the post is inacurate, nor does the initial post explain that what really needs to be done is repeal the Hughes amendmant to the 1986 FOPA, we still have the right to own a full auto.

This keeps the commoners from being able to legally access them.

Which I believe the SCOTUS has ruled is a defacto ban.

Heller made bans unconstitutional.

Unfortunately there is a Catch 22 built in to using that to get back MG's.

The high price is a defacto ban. Heller made bans of guns in popular use unconstitutional. MG's aren't in popular use because of the high price thus its not unconstitutional to ban them via monkeying around with their availability via regulation. Catch 22.

Illustrate how the feds could make gobs of money by allowing them again and you may then have something.

Kinda like they did in 1934, that was $200, in today's dollar that would be $3200. If they did do it they would raise the tax so the common man could not afford it anyways as they did in 1934.
