I get why the fires spread so far and so rapidly on windy days but what starts them in the first place?

I wonder how many are started by catalytic converter in pastures? Side note, do fire trucks have something that prevents that?
Most are diesel, most are deleted diesels. Even the non-deleted cats don't have the cat shields like the gas engines used to that had that tray with a lip that gathered debris.

What most people miss is the critical threat posed by the spread of eastern redcedar across large parts of the Oklahoma landscape. Areas that are hundreds or thousands of acres in size ready to go up like a torch. Putting on my optimist hat, perhaps some parts of the state have been saved from even greater future destruction by yesterdays fires knocking back the growth of this tree.
I have been doing my part to rid my place of every cedar i come across, i truely hate them things not only are they a fire hazard but they will suck all the moisture from the ground killing other plants.

In the beginning- man discovered when lighting hit a tree it made fire. He figured out how to make a torch by wrapping dry vegetation on a stick and spread fire into his camp/cave and so forth. He then turned this duty over to woman to keep going while he hunted and gathered. Woman used fire to burn dinner regularly which pissed off man and that's when he took over the grill and left women to do something with the fruit and vegetables he would find. Then man noticed that the lighting would catch the dry grass on fire and the wind would blow it across the land. This led to clearing the ground so they could plant seeds and make more crops. Man discovered that prairie fires could be used against enemy tribes who might attack and try to steal his meat burning woman. Now days, these people who start fires are called pyromaniacs: one who for preverse intentions, start fires for excitement and rush of pleasure. Their phobia feels uncontrollable and provides relief by setting fire.

Dry conditions and wind alone don't create fires or else my yard would have burned up. Cigarettes, arson, something else?
I suspect most were started by power lines near trees that otherwise would have been far enough away not to hit them -- they probably will be studying the situations where individual houses were burned in a neighborhood - just spraying down plants around the house before they left may have helped?? OK was far more prepared than CA so we had a better outcome - could have been much worse

Our daughter and SIL just bought a place in Logan County NW of Lazy E. They got really lucky Friday. We're helping them move today and tomorrow. They have a 3 or 4 large cedars close to a structure that need to go along with others spread out over their 2 acres that also need cleared out.

Drove around and found the source to the fire that burned about 40 acres near my house. Burn pile from a 20 acre piece of property near me. Stupid ass^#!&. Will have to give them a call Monday when I know their business is open, I doubt they would answer this weekend knowing their burn pile started the fire
