I get why the fires spread so far and so rapidly on windy days but what starts them in the first place?

Lightening will cause a few fires this spring.

The right amount of heat, fuel, and oxygen coming together at the right time causes fires.

Friday I was coming home and saw a neighbor had a yard clean up crew working. To my astonishment, they were clearing the flower beds by burning them off. The wind was up pretty good and fire looked like it was everywhere. Even small fires like that are capable of starting larger fires.

May have been mentioned, but I'd venture to say several are from burn barrels.....

I have tried to start fires with a burning cig several times and have never had one to start a fire yet. Even throwed one in a can of gas and it put the cig out.

Mannford fire started by a power line getting blown down from the wind, the youth pastor and my daughters church saw it happen, by the time he called it in and went to warn a couple of neighbors his house had already be lit.

This is how close it got to my kids house, just burned around the tree and not the rest of the front yard, the other pic is the side of the house where it got a bit charred and firefighters busted out a couple of pickets to put out a fire that started there and saved the place ! She is very thankful !!
