New to the site, just retired and am looking forward to getting back into shooting. I am getting setup to shoot conventional pistol, it's been about 15 years since the government provided the equipment and ammo. I shot for the National Guard for 8 years. I've been in the Tulsa area for about 13 years, have been a member of Oil Capital and Tulsa Gun Club. Just joined U.S. Shooting Academy, looks like a great facility.

Hello all.

First, allow me to state the obvious ... I'm glad to be here, and thank you for having me.

I hope that I can offer as much as I plan to take away from the forum.

I am a 13 year Vet with service in Desert Storm. My service time is half Navy, half Army. I am a licensed pilot, certified Electronic Tech, hunter, trapper, fisher, Father of three and Husband to 1. I am the Founder and Co-Owner of the Oklahoma Wildlife Control® Limited Liability Company.

I am the Region 4 Director for the National Wildlife Control Operators Association, and Vice President of the N.W.C.O.A. OK State Chapter. I am a Past Director, Presidential Nominee and Webmaster for the Oklahoma Fur Bearers Alliance. I am a lifetime member of Gun Owners of America. I am a member of the Oklahoma Falconers Association, Oklahoma Predator Hunters Association and the Oklahoma Coordinator for the National White Nose Syndrome N.W.C.O. Task Force.

I have a lot of irons in the fire ... but this is no problem, because I am the kind of person that will just build up the fire to add more irons to it.

My favorite saying is ... "I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy!"

Glad to be here, and thank you.

Newbie introduction,

I have never owned a gun but have fired a few guns in my life. After attending gun shows, gun shops and talking to lots of knowledgeable folks, I have decided to purchase a 9mm as a first gun. There is so much to learn and am looking forward to becoming a responsible gun owner. I have looked at the M&P, FNP, XD9 and lots of Glocks. I like the feel of the M&P and the FNP. I have an oportunity to get a new FNP for $385 total (incl S&H plus FFl fee). I will probably buy it if it is still available when I get home tonight. However, the first thing I will learn is safety then how to shoot.

This is probably one of the most level-headed intros I've read in a long time - welcome aboard and to the world of guns. Ask lots of questions and don't be shy (use the search function a lot too - some folks get bent out of shape when they see a question asked more than once - even if they've done it themselves a time or two).

Hello Hog and welcome to OSA. I would strongly suggest that you find a NRA instructor in the Tulsa area and take the Basic Pistol Course. That would get you started in the right direction.

Go to the NRA course locator and find someone in your area who is offering the course. What you learn now will influence you for the rest of your shooting life. It will make you a safer shooter and a better shooter.
