Believing that any officer serving in any service is by definition automatically telling the truth when speaking publicly and on the record is naive in the extreme. One would like it to be true but when it comes to public statements involving a uniformed service an officer is duty bound and legally bound by the UCMJ to say what he is told to say by his superior officers; especially when politics are involved.
