Hello good people.

First off let me express great gratitude for all the positive responses,,,
They warmed my heart greatly I can assure you.

I tried to reply from my phone at the hospital,,,
But silly me had forgotten the password to the forum website.

So here's what has happened:

The surgery went very well and my doc is very confident he got it all.
I didn't experience a whole lot of pain so I was grateful.
Surgery on Monday and I came home on Wednesday.
I'm doing a 5-minute walk (creep) around my home every two hours.
Again, the pain level is very low so I'm not needing pain meds.

Yes, the catheter is a pain in the you know what,,,
But for the first time in years I got a full 8+ hours of sleep.

First time I haven't had to get up at 2:30 in many years.

So basically I'm just being a recliner potato,,,
Watching way too much Netflix,,,
And hopefully, healing.

Thanks again good people,,,

Good news!!

I named my catheter "Tommy the Tube", it was nice for awhile to not have to get up to pee, but after a week I grew weary of him. Not sure if they told you, and this is probably TMI for the group, but a little 3 in 1 ointment helps stop chaffing. Don't let the shower stream hit the tube, it creates a terrible sensation. I was pretty worked up about getting the tube out, didn't feel it at all, getting the drains out was a bizarre feeling.

Yeah, pulling that abdomen drain was definitely an incredibly "odd" feeling,,,
It wasn't pain so much as just a very strong weird sensation,,,
One that I had never experienced before.

I'm getting the catheter out on the 19th and was dreading it until your post,,,
I hope I have the same easy experience as you had.

Thanks for the support.

I was shocked when I was laying there braced for the pain of that thing sliding every bit of the way out. Had my eyes closed and was working on my breathing, then I heard the nurse say "OK we are done!"...

Glad you are doing well, it gets better from here, feel free to reach out to me if you need anything or have any questions.

Right before they pull take a deep breath and hold it. Trust me. You will be glad you did. The few times I've been "tubed up" it was not painful -- just weird feeling -- when they pulled it. Kinda like ripping a bandaid off a sore spot. 🤷

I'm glad you are doing so well. This getting old ain't for the faint of heart, is it?? 🤷
