Just learned my wife's aunt passed away and left her a Subaru (2025)

Not very many AWD cars/ SUVs get 30 mpg like Subarus do.

Not being a A hole but my wife’s Toyota Highlander AWD typically gets 36mpg.

Also pretty much everything you suggested as far as maintenance is spot on. And for pretty much every vehicle most consumers buy these days.

My son works on most brands at a large used vehicle dealer. He told me it’s pretty easy to spot the ones maintained vs those not. He also said 250K is easily attainable these days by as you said regular maintenance and you should expect over 300K if you do.

BTW my hippie daughter loves her Subaru.

I'm guessing that needing to keep the same tire diameters, down to 2/32", also means you need to keep tire pressures pretty even. Should anyway.

Our experience- car ran great with no issues to about 120k. We had a 2002 outback and it did not mind going off-road. We got nice mileage. Very stable, nimble. Everyone loved to drive it.

But here is the rub which sent me wrong. Had to do the brakes on the outback and the 911. Put new rotors and new pads on all four wheels and bearings done. Parts cost on the Subaru were almost four times the cost of the 911. Helps the 911 had the same/similar systems for years. BUT come on, they made way more outback’s than 911s every model year. Then hoses had to be replaced, wow! Then A/C, then….. Only thing normal price was plugs. Traded it quickly for what we spent in parts in six months. Drove the Honda for years. Still on the road with 350k, saw it last week and they love it!

Rotate tires front to back. Keep all treads close in tread depth. AWD provides some distinct advantages in nasty weather, their current system is similar to the 964 from ‘89-94. It is not best in all situations. I have an AWD infinity and get a stable 20.4 average. Requires expensive gas. But more comfortable than a towncar (BLASPHEMY).

I used to love sending wheel upgrades for those. They can handle a +15mm offset that brings the wheels out. that brand on this video is a perfect example.

The Subaru 2024 Outback just gave us what she wanted in safety, reliability, and value. What we got in Subaru would’ve been several thousand more at Honda or Toyota. And even though we were prepared to pay cash, the 0% didn’t hurt.

wife's 2023 Nissan rogue is AWD she hit a road hazard at 18,000 miles and ruined a front tire. had to buy a whole set which sucked. btw it routinely gets around 34 mpg on the highway

No, it’s the mid-sized. The lineup is smallest with the Crosstrek, then Outback and the largest, Forrester, for the wagons. They do have a traditional SUV as well.
