A senior State Department official said President Barack Obama's administration would notify the US Senate of the decision on Tuesday and Kerry would sign the treaty on Wednesday on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly in New York.

Al Jazeera actually has some very good reporting. I really miss their old science and technology section; it was better than anything I could find on a mainstream US outlet, even when I went specifically searching for stories.

I was particularly impressed with this line in the linked story:

...arguing that it undermines American sovereignty and disregards the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees citizens the right to bear arms.

Al Jazeera recognized that the Constitution doesn't grant rights, it guarantees them. The rights would exist with or without the Constitution; they're a function of our very existence, and the government's job is to secure them. I wish mainstream US outlets would recognize that distinction.
