This would make me mad I'd cast one of those "I'm voting against you" ballots.

I wouldn't expect the democrat party to need to resort to this in new york , I would expect it to be pretty much a democrat rubber stamp election locale.

The image I have in my mind's eye of the self image new yorkers have of themselves would lead me to believe this would help anyone but democrat candidates.

It's called vote shaming and though it is legal it is despicable.
They are doing the same thing in NC.
Studies have shown that is does actually increase voter turnout but no one knows if it affects the way people voted.

Same thing is happening in Alaska except in that case the mailers are being sent out by a PAC called Opportunity Alliance.
Article here about it if anyone is curious.

I'm sure our resident Lefties will deny these letters or denounce it all as a plot by the Koch Brothers. But, until then, this is what one of these letters looks like:

Jerry's grandfather passed away, and left Jerry his old pocket watch.
Jerry noticed the watch was broken, when he held it up to his ear, it would go "tick...tick...tick"
Jerry was talking to a co-worker about it. The co-worker told him to take it to a jeweler, and gave him the address of an old German jeweler, who did watch repair.
Jerry took the watch and and explained the problem. The old German jeweler held the watch to his ear, "tick...tick...tick".
"Come back next veek", the jeweler said.
After Jerry had left, the old German jeweler took the watch in the back and secured it in a vise. The watch kept ticking.

The old German jeweler adjusted his monocle and addressed the watch. "Ve haf vays to make you tock."

http://oklavoters.com has a record of all registered OK voters, Political affiliation, ID #, Birth Date, address and their voting history:

Here is a sample:

XXX was born on XX XXX XXXX and registered to vote on 26 September 20XX, listing the address XXX XX in STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA, U.S.A 740XX. XXX, a Republican, voted “absentee in person” in the election held 6 November 2012, voted “absentee in person” in the election held 2 November 2010, voted in person on 27 July 2010, voted in person on 11 May 2010 and voted in person on 4 November 2008.

Now you too can see who your neighbors and family really are. I honestly think this is WAY too much personal information to be publicly available and why I haven't changed my address and will vote “absentee in person” from now on!

Yeah ... I looked myself up not long ago. Probably the biggest reason I'm contemplating not voting ever again. Most likely I will not register when we move. And like I said, let somebody tell me they've looked me up and try to talk to me about my voting record ... or lack thereof ... I double dog dare them ...
