This has happened since at least the Clinton administration and certainly during both Bush terms. Remember the "Black Helicopters"? These exercises are the origins of that term.

I know they have run military type exercises in major cities before, but I have never heard of them flying below building level or firing weapons from the birds during them.

You guys are quick to forget that Houston is where all the trash ended up coming from the katrina fiasco.

That is categorically untrue. Several busloads of that trash ended up at the old Lucent plant down the street from my house. The fast-food restaurants down there closed up for a period of time because they got tired of all that trash blowing in off the street begging -- no, I'm sorry -- DEMANDING free food because they didn't like the MREs they were given.

I was never so glad to see a bunch of people disappear in my life ... Damned dullards ... One of them tried to open my car door when I refused to make eye contact at the corner light and empty out my purse just for them ... :grumble::tounge::finger: Just because I won't make eye contact with you doesn't mean I don't SEE YOU, YOU FRIGGIN' MORON!!!

This thread is so full of crap that I almost take offense posting in it.

Our power plant was involved in a HALO drop from some military unit 15 years ago. I can't imagine the kahunas of the guys coming in with chutes at night among 640 thousand volt power lines from high altitudes. Employees had a short notice, and they were told to go about their business as normal. Those that were "killed" wore a cardboard sign.
FYI there are only three company's in the world that build power plants. All designs are the same, no matter if it's in china, or the US.
These units need real time training.

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- If you hear a lot of loud noises in Galveston tonight, it's probably part of a military training exercise.

According to the Galveston County Daily News, the Army is using the old jail on 17th Street for a night drill in urban warfare.

Residents on the East End may see military personnel and a helicopter, and possibly hear gunfire and explosions. The Army unit is from Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

That announcement comes a day after the Army and Houston police apologized for not giving advance warning of a joint training exercise in southeast Houston.

People living near the Old Carnegie Vanguard High School were concerned when they saw low-flying helicopters and heard multiple rounds of gunfire Monday afternoon.

We are training these folks to defend our country.
Unfortunatly some think that places like China still live in thatched huts that can be destroyed with a zippo lighter.
Real time exercises are a fact of life training.
