I have a suspicion what will happen, but if more of us stop talking and start doing, maybe something will change?

Here's my email to Pizza Hut Corporate:

Good Afternoon.

I wanted to inquire what your policy was in regards to the incident (link) at one of your locations in North Carolina. Specifically, what action, if any, would you take against the employee in a similar situation?

I ask because I spend approximately $200-300 a year at one of your locations in Oklahoma City. If you choose to not support an employee in this situation, I will stop spending my money, forever, at Pizza Hut. Please understand, I respect your right to have whatever corporate policy you desire. I do, however, want you to understand my right to not spend money with your company.

While you may not care about my money as an individual, perhaps you will care as more people vote with their wallet. I would appreciate a call to discuss this issue at 405.XXX.XXXX, or via email at XXXXXX.

Thank you,

Jerry[/I]

Here, but occasionally There.
Merely operating here as a "devil's advocate", does the employee not accept the consequences if they fail to follow company policies?

I'm not saying the employee who responded to an assault in kind was in the wrong for doing so, but if he knew that possession of a firearm while at work was against company policy, he should be prepared to resign as did others.

Having said that, with the given climate of some criminals having the violent attitude toward their victims, I find it deplorable that a business does not have a little more leniency, especially if their employees are being beaten, or even threatened with such.

I would 100% rather have to RESIGN from my job - than for my parents to have to bury me. I give the guy mad props for sticking up for himself and his co-workers. I know that I use to manage a Sonic back in my HS days - and the thought of robbery was always scary. My old boss was robbed a few times - one of which they shoved them all in the bathroom face first on the ground - said he thought that was that - needless to say I moved on but if I were in that business again - CCW would be well worth my life vs having to RESIGN

Hi, Terry.

You're completely correct in my opinion. Being a big fan of personal accountability, if you knowingly carry against corporate policy, that's a valid reason for termination. Again, I honestly do respect their right to establish corporate policy as they see fit, just like it's my right to disagree.

I sometimes feel I read the news with too much, "Well, that's just too bad", then I move on. I guess I'm tired of moving on!

Thanks for the comment.

I have sent a follow up to them as well now. I hope they respond and change the policy.I may not be the most wordy and powerful speaker but I am including my verbiage to them. I think it got my point across and comes across as a concerned citizen not a random crazy guy...but meh

"I am including a link below. I can not believe in such a large cash business that a company would not support it's employees for protecting store assets and ensuring the safety of it's employees by an individual exercising their 2nd amendment rights. Requesting resignation and failing to stand behind their employees and not supporting rights that even protect the company is a shame. Is this a corporate policy or just a local? I would hope it is not company wide and if it is that you repeal that policy as many other 2nd amendment supporters are already in arms over this issue.

I believe company policy is just that. It is NOT law. The company can follow that policy or not, at it's sole discretion. The Law is followed at the courts discretion. If it was legal for him to carry, there is no problem for him to find another job as long as he is alive to look for one. He made the choice to disobey the company policy and maintain his life. I applaud him for his discretion.

By denying employees by policy the ability to exercise those rights, they imply they will provide security. I am unaware of a company that provides any counseling needing in case of a traumatic event, and pizza hut sure does not send any security to the stores or along with the delivery drivers. Their answer is apparently wait for the police to show up to help and hope you make it okay...
