I'm partial to Bois D'Arc. Has more flexibility than Oak and will hold a point longer than Hickory. I also think it is a prettier wood and age darkens beautifully.

As someone else also noted. Keep her really wet! A steel 1911 needs to be be well oiled to run right.

hickory, mesquite, basically all of the smoker woods, have too many inferior parts (bark, etc) & often break when pointing & or poking. I prefer a nice oak with a custom tuned point & checkered grip.

Bois D'Arc has been used for stick making for hundreds of years, let's see how long the plastic pointers hold up.

I thought this was a 1911 thread not an old timer wheel gun thread. And yes K's are better than J's
