I would recommend both. Used to carry and compete with 1911's. But as of late, I don't carry mine much. But I do have a S&W M625 "Model of 1988" that is on my nightstand every night.

Not in Oklahoma!
First off you dont want nothing but stainless for a carry gun. Even the stainless will rust and pit from your sweating 9 months out of the year.
But a blued gun will wear and rust much faster!

Second just forget about those pinned and recessed lots of people get all hot and bothered over. The non recessed are better!

I mean any S&W is better than none, but those recessed cylinders is just a place for dirt and goo to collect and it is harder to clean. It was a stupid idea for them to recess the cylinders!

Third you do not want anything in a n frame.

A 66 or a 686, 3 inch barrel, 4" is pushing it!

You defininately do not want no lunker 45acp. A sling shot has about as good a trajectory!

If you must have a 1911 get a 10mm!

If you find your in a lot of bad places go with a cz75. It started life in 1975, and would be right at home.
And when you go chootin, you get 2 trigger pulls from the nine, vs only one for the (lob em in) 45acp for the same money!

I would say something in nickel from S&W like a 19, 36, a 13, in the 3” brl. A semi I’d say a 1911a1 in nickel or a Browning HP in nickel. You are looking at 5-6 rds vs 7-9 rds vs 25-16 rds. Basket weave holster. A 12 ga Ithaca 37 or Remington 870 in 12ga, or a milsurp sporterized bolt action behind the seat.

For ease of quick use... a revolver. More than 6 shots available a slide gun. Availability of either... depends on your back pocket.

357 gets my vote, or 38 either in a 3+ inch barrel

This was actually my daily on-duty carry when I first donned a badge, way back in the summer of 1989. Except, my BUG/off-duty wheelie was a model 60 with fixed sights.

I carried the 3 inch model 13 in a black basketweave Tom Threepersons holster, along with a pair of HKS speedloaders and the model 60 in a cheap, suede leather IWB clipped inside my left boot.

Off duty, I carried the model 60 in the same IWB holster under a T shirt at about 4 o'clock with a Bianchi speed strip in my pocket.

I have that carry rig a guy could try out. If said guy liked it, it would be available reallll reasonable.

It came with a nice 60s wheel gun. But I am not a Bianca X15 shoulder rig. It looks handy if one drove a lot, climbed towers and rescued blonds from a big Gorilla or something.
Let’s see a picture of the shoulder rig.

I’ve been driving my 73 F250 a lot lately. It’s a long bed so it’s a lot more useful for small lumber loads than my Duramax.

Problem is, I feel weird carrying a 320 with all the modern do dads. Rolling down the road with that appendix just breaks the feeling of driving an old single cab. Wife thought it was dumb but approved a new old style handgun.

1911 or revolver. I’m thinking a no rail 1911A1 from Springfield or an old colt. Or a nice S&W 357 magnum. I’ve never owned either. Both feel good in my hands, and I’ve shot other peoples. 357 would take a little practice but I’m good with a 1911.

So what say you older guys. If you go back to 1973 what would a guy in his 30s. If I get a 1911 I’m thinking about getting a shoulder holster because that says old school to me.
Try no rail and no sights! (1911A1 with modern sights you can actually see is my vote
