TOPEKA, Kansas- Lawmakers are set to take up changes to the state's conceal and carry gun law later this week.

The bill would require any state or local publicly-owned facility that does not allow people to carry a concealed weapon to have certain levels of security measures.

Some wonder if a simple sign prohibiting carrying a concealed weapon makes sure that the facility is secure enough.

A committee hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

....I heard this on KSN news this evening. I wonder what "certain levels of security measures" means.

Not sure what "certain levels of security measures" means but I believe it is the responsibility of government to protect citizens anywhere it forbids citizens the ability to defend themselves.

You would have to assume this would include schools. The so-called gun free zones can only exist if a high level of protection is provided in place of personal protection.

I would much rather see restoring the right of individuals to protect themselves.

That is HB 2685 It requires ARMED security.

Follow the discussion here:
HB 2685

Also of interest are the following:

SB 504 allows nonresident military dependents to get a Ks. CHL. Active non-resident military are already allowed. This bill also has a number of changes to the basic CHL Law, including clearification of the Gunbuster sign and where it has to be Placed.

SB 504

And last but not least HB 2432 & SB 381; These clear up the KS supreme court ruling, which dis allowed justification for pointing a weapon at a threat without shooting them.

HB 2432 & SB 381

No way, is that commons sense in action? I'm glad someone is paying attention, but I'm sure someone will come in here and say that it is our decision to visit such an establishment. When you visit a place with signs there has to be some assumption that my safety is at there best interest and they they have taken measures to ensure my safety, therefor, if I am hurt I should be able to hold them liable just as if I slip on there wet floors.

Now if they would just change the law that says that the gunbuster sign is adequate notice/posting for a CCW law violation for carrying in a posted location that could lead to charges and loss of permit. I like the OK law better in that regard.

Most places like court houses and city halls already meet those requirements. The only place I can think of that is government run that does not meet those is schools polling places. Most schools I have seen either have security guards or a Police officer on duty. Polling places are a bit touchy. Most are in schools which is a federal law about not guns. Some are churches which are private property. Having openly armed people provided by the incumbent politician could be viewed as trying to influence an election.

Wow, that Patricia Stoneking looks to have her guns-guts lined up! Another plus for KS!

She is not ONLY a gun advacate, She owns a company (Sorry I cant remember the Name) That does all sorts of weapons and tactical training near Kansas City. Simular to US Shooting Acadamy

That what this will do, It will make a Violation a fine instead of a felony and loss of permit. Baby steps here, It is pre-emptive for future legisaltion which will include CCW on college campuses.

The other issue with the gun buster is, There is suppose to be only one sign, but the AG office has been un willing to say that if someone violates a non AG sign that they will not be prosecuted. Also the AG office have thus far been un willing to define where the signs need to be placed. A number of KSCCW member have passed signs that where blocked from view or placed places like 12 feet above an entry door for example. Or there would be only one sign on an entire building, with 10 entrances to the building.

In places like Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City, sure there is likely some sort of security that you have to go through to get inside these places. However, most of Kansas is like Oklahoma and you could carry a large nuclear weapon into into a court house and somebody, will likely ask you if you need some help with that big load.
