He's scraping it off a fine mesh screen right? I get the concern and the point, but that is fuzz accumulation. Most of that fuzz is going to circulate through in smaller amounts and flow through passages without issue and then get caught in the filter.

My concern would be the tight clearances in the lifter and this stuff accumulating in them.
I have seen many times a roller lifter quit working.
Worked fine for a couple hours then begin to tick and would not pump up.
Just mush.
Replaced the lifters that were bad and couple hours of drive time later another 2 lifters do the same thing.
Comp Hydraulic rollers.
Comp stood behind them though.
Free replacements. No paper towel lint in it either.
New build.
Just something more to think about
