He still pretty much votes the way we want.
I can't vote for him, but I would if I lived in his district.
He's generally pretty outspoken about our constitutional right.

I'm not entirely sure but what he was saying is that because of being American.
His country.

I understand what you are saying but he said Country not Government. IMO they are not the same thing. So I dont think he means it the way you are taking it

Rep. Wesselhoft is our ally but unfortunately like many in our country he doesn't get it either.

Governments do not grant rights.

They are ours by right of birth. Our government in particular was formed to protect the rights of the people - a function it has forgotten and no longer honors. Governments can only restrict the exercise of rights which ours has done and will continue to do increasingly regularly.

But they absolutely do not grant them.

The distinction is subtle but important and should never be forgotten lest we stop being citizens and become subjects.

Maybe but I doubt it.

In the context used he meant government. No other interpretation makes sense. A country is defined by geographical boundaries. In addition if you ask most will say country and government are synonomous.

As much as I agree with the sentiment in both spirit and word that was written it is unlikely that the gentleman understands the distinction between natural and granted rights IMO.

Not worth arguing about though. Perhaps someone here knows the genteleman and can just ask him or ask him to join in the discussion.

Very important.

"Half a truth is often a great lie"--Benjamin Franklin

~John Adams

"Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place."

Seems he has a meet and greet coming up soon in Moore.
I know Paul and like him.
But I don't like anyone enough to vote for them if we disagree on core beliefs.
The last thing we can do is not support someone who share our core beliefs.
I'm pretty sure he shares our beliefs.
I'll try and get him to post here so he can describe what he was saying.

Governments do not grant rights.

Countries are not governments. Nations are not states. States are not countries.

Many people of our country or nation, who have lived before in the general vicinity of where I now sit, have died to make sure that I was born in a place where I am able to utilize the rights that all living beings have.

Though I agree ENTIRELY with everything you say, don't be too quick to miscontextualize or punish a simple misuse of a word. I'd be willing to bet that the Rep. himself would agree with you on all counts.
