I've been a SDA Instructor since it started and a NRA Endowment member for years. I've got to agree with InstructroJR , open carry would be a mistake. There are too many antigun people just waiting for carry permit holders to be involved in a bad shooting. There have been other post on here wanting to allow permit holders to go in bars if they don't drink. Add the two together and you know what would happen sooner or later.

Your opinion and ultimate interpretation of the Constitution is flawed. Over 40 states allow Open Carry. Are Okies not as responsible as citizens from say California, where open carry is allowed by permit? Even your home state of Virginia allows open carry. Are Virginians better citizens than Okies? If we want to retain our rights, we cannot allow any more erosion of our liberties! We must unite and work together to get liberties restored. The Right to Keep and Bear (not concealed) is affirmed to us by the Constitution. Only because we have been asleep for 50 years have we allowed this right to be taken away. Man-up and join the effort to help restore liberty.

SAD to see that even supposed pro gun rights folks feel that Americans can no longer be entrusted with the liberties guaranteed 230 years ago.

Maybe we should have a Constitutional amendment to have gun rights removed... After all, it's really in everyone's best interests, I guess.

In some open carry states the Police and Courts will enforce other charges to check rouge behavior.

there are laws about carrying a weapon for the intent of harming others... that would go to motive if you shot someone you have issues with...

if you are out of line with an open weapon there are charges about creating mayhem and public disturbance that come into play.

Poll the Midwestern states with allowance of open carry.. you find it the right is excercised little in populated states. In rural areas and during hunting seasons are about the only time you see a very few people strapped

Checking a gun is a viable option in some localites. I think the Courthouse, and other "NO GUN" venues should provide lockers or make other provisions to check guns.

These same people are chomping at the bit for any mis-use of a gun, whether concealed, open, or illegally carried. They just hate guns, period.

Why does the fact that I go into a bar mean I know longer need a self defense mechanism. I am old enough and wise enough to not handle a weapon when I am drunk, but then I don't go to bars and get drunk and drive either. Why don't we make it illegal for bars to have parking lots, since they merely enable drunk driving? Not everyone that drinks gets drunk. Not everyone that drinks and carries will become a gun wielding maniac.

For my stance on all freedoms, see my sig line. It pretty much sums it up. With freedom comes responsibility. I can handle both.

Brazil hasn't melted into depravity?

Have you been to Brazil?

In Rio it's completely unsafe to go anywhere but Zona Sul and even that can be dangerous.

Michael Brown

I've been to Sao Paulo for a week on business. Went to a lot of places and never felt unsafe. Seemed much like the 10 years i spent growing up in spain. You avoid certain areas... others, well, they look bad but its just their way of living. I stopped in one of the poorer areas in Sao Paulo to visit a friends wife's family... had to flush the toilet with a bucket of water as they had no running water in the house. Never had any concern about my safety.

On the other hand... i probably wouldn't set foot in most parts of Chicago or LA.

I wonder if the people of Brazil think america has sunken into a state of depravity when they hear all the news about our big city crime...

Wait, thats right, back in the 80's the international media was already presenting the USA as a horrible place, and everyone hated daddy BUSH when he became president. All our neighbors told us how horrible he was and how the country was going to the crapper because he was elected. Of course, their views are slightly skewed by liberal media, their own socialistic government, government health care that was horrid, etc etc etc.
