All of this knee-jerking is based on hysterics, even though some of it has been fueled by LEOs own comments regarding what they will do if they see someone open carrying. I predict that this will be short lived, because they have actual crime to prevent/respond to, instead of harassing law abiding citizens, and responding to silly calls from citizens that have nothing better to do. Plus, if this becomes too much of an issue, some heat will be applied to LEOs to stop the nonsense

I'm sure alot of those LEOs that hassle legal citizens will get some complaints to their supervisors

How do we find out which of the sheriff's that don't support opencarry? I wouder if they train their deputies to fallow the law when.it gets signed.

KOTV in Tulsa showed a map of which sheriff's felt how, breaking it down into 4 categories ranging from full support to no support. Tulsa Co. was on board with OC.

"Many of the sheriffs opposed to the open carry law offered these arguments:

- They won't be able to tell the bad guys from the good guys.

- It will be dangerous for the person openly carrying the gun.

- There will be more officer-involved shootings.

- There will be more guns stolen because citizens don't have weapon retention training."

Many of the sheriff's are, apparently, morons.

LEO's will always respond to calls for service. Man with a gun calls will get checked out. To refuse service and then have a shooting would be an unacceptable level of risk to the agency.

many of the sheriff's are, apparently, elected politicians who pander to their base.

Agreed. However, I think this is where training can help reduce false reports. Simply asking if the man has the gun in hand vs holstered and not threatening action, will prevent unnecessary responses. Again, I think this is much ado about nothing. Once people get used to seeing people open carrying, or frankly, get bored of making false 911 calls, these calls will will drop off dramatically - like they have in all the other states that have open carry

Hey, before this turns in to a cop bashing thread, I would just like to say that some of us support open carry. Some of us even spend out days off teaching SDA classes so that others can legally carry a weapon to protect themselves.

I know that I will have to respond to calls for "a man/woman with a gun". As long as that gun is carried in accordance with the law there shouldn't be any issues. I can only speak for me, so I don't know how other LEO's will react. Hopefully the DA's will get with the agency heads they serve and advise them how and what they should do.

And I do plan on offering some extra weapon retention training in my SDA classes and I am working on a class specifically for that to offer to those that want it.
