After looking at the morning temps on my cameras, I screwed up really bad by not driving up yesterday to start the mowing process this morning, but today is my wife’s first day of school with kids. It’s also first day she hasn’t had one of our kids there with her, and it’s affected her a little more than I thought it would. Needless to say, she didn’t want me to leave yesterday, so I didn’t. :rolleyes2

Good morning all,
Have a 9am dental appointment to get a cavity filled. Praying it goes well.

Have a great day!
Read that wrong. Thought you wrote that you had a 9mm dental appointment to get a cavity filled. Hoping the dentist uses a lot of numbing stuff (for his own protection) :laugh6:

Here, but occasionally There.
REALLY nice day today surveying roads. First of all, the temperature only got up to about 95 here in Denison, TX, which made it much more comfortable in the van.

Further, we worked one record on one road going east out of Denison that ended near an historic bridge called "Carpenter's Bluff Bridge." It was originally built as a railroad bridge to bring coal from Oklahoma to Texas. As time went on, it underwent different iterations until finally being abandoned. However, one can still walk out onto the bridge, which I did so I could take some pictures.

Any leaning pictures noticed must know that it is probably because of the photographer and not the bridge construction.

New bridge and Red River.

Someone might or might not have been out walking on a rickety wooden part of the bridge. The best part of the bridge has a concrete base.

Someone (else) lost a cap here. There was no hole near the cap, so did they jump, or did they get so drunk they forgot to retrieve their cap?

The little jaunt might have been hard on my knees, but I'm glad I went back out to the bridge to get photos. I need to try to get back out there to get a picture of the whole bridge from the newer one, but today, the traffic was a bit too much to have to walk out onto the new bridge.

Great pictures TerryMiller, thank for posting them. Just had a question though. The Plaque reads that the original bridge had a "Wagon Shelf". What is a 'Wagon Shelf'?
"An extra lane to serve travelers on foot and horseback, as well as horse-drawn vehicles, all of whom had to pay a toll for its use."

I bet it is the wooden area on the side. It even seems that one can slightly see the heavier worn area from wagon wheels.

Thanks. So many commas that I read it as '. . . included a wagon shelf' (comma) 'an extra lane to serve travelers on foot and horseback' (comma) as well as 'horse drawn vehicles' - meaning three separate lanes or areas.
Now I see (with your help, thanks) that it was one side area for all of the above. Man getting old sucks! Guess comprehension is the third thing to go (after hearing and sight) 🤣

I have difficulty with correct grammar. I had to read it a few times.
It isn't just old age for hearing and sight to go. I can't see.

I made the drive up yesterday with a tractor and food plot equipment. All I got done yesterday was to fill one protein feeder and mow my yard. After evaluating the job yesterday evening, I’ll probably be on the tractor mowing for the next couple days mowing roads and food plot areas. My idea to only mow once a year has turning out to be a horrible one. :rolleyes2

@retrieverman you better get busy. Deer season is just around the corner. I’m getting a storm shelter delivered today to what will eventually be our new homestead property. I’ve also got to finish weed eating around the old fence line. I’ve only got about 3/4 mile left to go. The fence is in poor condition so fence repair is an upcoming project in the near future. Two of my least favorite things to do are weed eating and building fence. Hope everyone is enjoying this slightly cooler weather.
