I carried an old H&R 929 revolver (9 shot, 22LR) for a short period of time a while back. This is obviously not my first choice as a CCW, but was the only pistol I had available for various reasons at the time. With the revolver, a malfunction just means pull the trigger again.

Guys, I hear ya and understand...but my question is: "Do you EVER carry a P22 or similar..." despite all the other stuff.

NO, my 380 is smaller than a P22.

FYI, reliability issues with 22 rimfire ammo was the primary reason that the 25acp round was introduced. It is a centerfire pistol round made just for tiny, pocket pistols.

while certanly not optimal 22lr will kill people.
more expensive 22 ammo is more reliable that the cheap stuff most people shoot.
I will also mention that CCI Velocitor meets the FBI minimum penetration depth for approved use.

Also, many of you mar recall the papa johns pizza delivery man who was murdered last year... that was a 22lr.

Oh I have no doubt that someone will eventually die from a 22lr/mag shot, but defending yourself isn't about killing. Defending yourself is all about stopping the threat as soon as possible. A 22 under most circumstances will not quickly and cleanly stop a full grown man.

Is a P22 the best choice? certanly not. But its better than many other options, and if its what you have to carry, its better to make informed decisions about its capabilities, and what type of ammunition to load it with.
