Yaa,definitely congrats to Manny. He is a true champion. He totally cared for Margaritos health, unlike Margarito himself or his corner. Thats class.PacMan doesn't have a problem taking a drug test... he's offered many times. The problem is, he's superstitious about losing in the past after having blood drawn close to a fight date. So Mayweather is insisting on a test within a week of the fight, I think because he knows it is pushing Manny's buttons and Floyd really doesn't want to fight him.
And yes, Margarito tried to cheat, the person from Manny's camp AND the doctor both saw one of Margarito's trainers try to get him to take the HydroxyCut. When Manny's guy pointed it out, the doc said, "Hey, he's knows it's banned, but he can take it if he wants to." Essentially saying he knows he'll forfeit if he wins, but they can't stop him.
Anyways, awesome display from Pacquiao, as well as a classy victory> he kept looking to the ref in the later rounds (particularly the 11th) as if asking him to stop the fight (he later admitted he had "pity" on Margarito), and when that wasn't forthcoming, finally only threw like 20 punches in the 12th round, and essentially even pulling those when possible.
After the fight, Manny still refused to say even one thing critical of Margarito, in spite of Antonio spending weeks talking about how Manny had no power, couldn't hurt him, calling him names, tearing up pictures of him in magazines in public places and even making fun of Manny's trainer Freddy Roach's Parkisonism. My step-dad said he even saw Margarito's son (looks to be about 6??) come out and say Pacquiao was a b!tch! Seriously??? Where did he hear that kind of crap? I promise you, my son would be picking himself up off the floor and then apologizing on camera to anyone he said that about.
Margarito and his crew are scumbags, plain and simple. Pacquiao exemplifies what boxing should be... all about what happens in the ring, and winning (and losing) with grace and humility. He lets his fighting talk for him and lets the bull$h!t take care of itself.
Congrats to Manny Pacquiao, and here's looking to a Pacquiao/Mayweather supermatch - although I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.
You could tell Manny was looking at the refs and was wondering why this guy was still out there and IMO from the 10th on Manny held back from hurting him or maiming him any further. An injury like that could kaput a career. Maybe it has. That eye was evil looking after what, the 4th? Still. Manny controlled him from round One all thru the fight. A little machine.
Supposedly Floyds uncle is in trouble for domestic violence same as Floyd and Floyd wont fight if hes not in his corner. And they both might be looking at some lenghty jail time. It might be a long time getting those two in the ring together. Manny has his polical career to keep him busy until then.
When I was a kid my family was all into martial arts- my father and older brothers had a school for it at a facility next to our house,my older brother still teaches at his own school in southern Cali. I trained in martial arts at my familys school as a kid but I was always way more into boxing. I tried boxing in the junior divisions into my late teens. Went from middle weight to heavyweight. Didnt have that great of a record,I lost about as many as I won,but I still loved doing it. Early 20s I got really into power lifting then bodybuilding, but have always boxed and now Im just in my early 40s and Im still at it. Im working with my 14 yr old kid now. This summer we got him a coach and he put a couple of inches on his arms lifting weights all summer. He already went thru the martial arts system since he was 7, but now he really wants to box. MMA doesnt interest him at all. Im hoping he goes for it and is good at it but hes tall and is going to be a big boy and will likely be a middleweight right now and light heavyweight to heavyweight later.
Im always going to be a life long boxing fanatic, always. MMA,UFC,whatever, its all the rage today and I like it alot, but I still have a love affair with traditional boxing. Hitman Hearns was my hero when I was a kid, another welter weight, and also owned belts in 5,6 different weights. Tyson of course was always a fave of my mine,Roy Jones,Jr was my next favorite, and then the Klitschko brothers, etc. Now its Shane Mosely,Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao. A fight between Manny and Floyd would be the next super card and make em both a lot of money. If Arum can get it worked out. But Mayweather doesnt like Arum.
