Although the Patriot Act failed this first time thru the House of Representatives, don't lower your guard because it will be voted upon again.

That being said, you all should know that every representative from Oklahoma voted not to repeal it, or, in fact voted to extend the Patriot Act. That's right, our so called conservative representatives from Oklahoma voted to re-enact/extend the Patriot Act. So, I challenge everyone that believes in liberty and freedom to write or call the legislator in their district here in Oklahoma and grill their "behinds". I could use many more choice words, but I better stop. Here's the link to see how your representative voted.

I just e-mailed my House of Representative and scolded him for supporting it. He's a _____ and I'm sick of him.

explain? that fact that it still exist but not enacted?
like the Clinton gun ban still exist but is not enacted?

SMS is right.

Sort of.

First of all the Patriot Act itself wasn't "repealed". Some provisions of it were set to expire and Congress has yet to pass an extension of those provisions. The last vote was one attempt to extend those provisions. Congress is not finished with it yet. And Obama has already signed at least one extension since he's been in office, so there is nothing to indicate he won't sign the next one once Congress sends it up.

So the legislation to extend those particular provisions as well as the remainder of the Patriot Act itself is not gone, dead, or repealed etc...

This issue is likely to come up for another vote soon. The first vote needed a super majority (2/3rds) to pass under the expedited house rules, but it fell short 277-148. If brought up under the normal procedure it will likely pass since it doesn't require the super majority.

No, they are self serving and doing what is best for them...the government. They do what best serves their needs and whatever will grow government. Most likely, they have never read the Constitution....but if they have, they do not understand it.

It's why I don't vote. It's an act of futilism. It's a shame what this country has turned into. Voting isn't going to fix it.
