I'm in. I belong to one gun site that we pay a yearly fee ($19.00) as support and we automatically are in the "Secrete" side of the forum. We also get promotional items for joining as well.
Anything goes and no one can see any threads that are created in the "Secrete" side unless you are a supported member.

As a mod on a forum that has an opt-in restricted-access section for political/religious/controversial discussions, I have an idea of how this can generate extra work for mods. Additionally, BB seems to be bored lately, so I voted "yes" so she'd have something to do to occupy her free time, 'cause I'm thoughtful like that. :D

But seriously, I do like the idea, as it gives the mods a less heavy-handed way of keeping things clean--I know that I prefer moving discussions over to the restricted forum instead of having to disappear them like some banana republic strongman. It's alright to talk a little treason (so to speak), just do it down at the pub, not in polite company...

Owned a car forum darn near 10 years ago. An open forum kept the moderating down to a minimum as the trouble makers and attention seekers had a place to go. I pretty much agree with everything Mr. Glock said....

The ironic thing is... this forum was started because of over moderation over at the OK forum on Glock Talk, rather that's why it instantly took off. Kinda funny how sometimes that label has switched places and back again IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I'll support whatever decision is made. My opinion isn't based on the history of this forum, or me being a mod. It's based on years of blood, sweat, and tears of scientific study of communities such as forum communities. On the exact issues we're discussing now (and other related issues), I've consulted professionally for Facebook, Twitter, IBM, AT&T, Microsoft, the US Army, FBI, The New York Times, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Science Foundation, and several other prominent organizations that I can't name.

Whether I'm a mod, or not, I truly care about this forum and can foresee great things for it...only if it's administered carefully. The structure of this forum needs an overhaul...a fresh start. The "old" ways didn't work that well, and neither do the "new" ways. We can either trust a few anecdotes that this or that will work, or trust the unfathomable data that's available which allows us to deductively figure out what works and what doesn't. I'm volunteering a unique and valuable expertise to this forum...it's up to you all to decide if you want to build a community unlike any other, and better than you've never imagined. You won't hurt my feelings either way.

Rock on,
YG

Like what kind of potential? For us regulars or for advertisers? If this site turns into a Facebook, data gathering, overly moderated site where freinds cant talk smack, tell jokes and generally BS about guns and shooting in Oklahoma.....well I ain't about them big ol fancy forums with tons of advertising banners and pop ups and marketing firms mining data. Nope I don't dig that kinda potential. But it's Books forum, I'll stick around until he runs me off or I start getting spam n popups.

I like how OSA is run and moderated. Other than CHenry and Hoddy I think we got a great bunch ;).
