Don't get me wrong, I'll support whatever decision is made. My opinion isn't based on the history of this forum, or me being a mod. It's based on years of blood, sweat, and tears of scientific study of communities such as forum communities. On the exact issues we're discussing now (and other related issues), I've consulted professionally for Facebook, Twitter, IBM, AT&T, Microsoft, the US Army, FBI, The New York Times, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Science Foundation, and several other prominent organizations that I can't name.

Whether I'm a mod, or not, I truly care about this forum and can foresee great things for it...only if it's administered carefully. The structure of this forum needs an overhaul...a fresh start. The "old" ways didn't work that well, and neither do the "new" ways. We can either trust a few anecdotes that this or that will work, or trust the unfathomable data that's available which allows us to deductively figure out what works and what doesn't. I'm volunteering a unique and valuable expertise to this forum...it's up to you all to decide if you want to build a community unlike any other, and better than you've never imagined. You won't hurt my feelings either way.

Rock on,
YG

I tend to believe the members here are actually right -- for once ... :P

I am a member on an international board ... I remember when they opened up their "Darkside" forum ... it's been a success for them and a couple of the moderators there told me it really made things easier for them. Instead of getting PMs insisting they do something about so-and-so they started getting PMs from disinterested members (members who didn't have a dog in the fight but wanted to keep the forums subject to searches free of junk ...) asking them to take a look at this, that or the other. There is still drama, to be sure, but nothing like the old days ... Moderators still moderate there ... and they have the last word ... but those mods are a tad bit less sensitive than some of the others. This board has a huge female and junior member presence that they are ferociously protective of. In fact men are regularly handed time-outs and bans for posting in the "Women's Only" forum.

Am a member of a couple of other national boards who have the same kind of Pit-stop ... anyone who enters and engages leaves their whiny voices at the door.

I've not seen their membership ... or standing in the internet community ... or advertising dollars from sponsors adversely affected. Of course, I don't have any blood, sweat or tears invested -- nor is it my Benjamins on the line here -- so whatever JB decides I'll roll with ...

Last thing I have to say ... and I've said this in the moderator's section -- is I have a problem with folks who haven't "stayed the course" with OSA "popping in the door" and complaining. But then again ... if this was JB's decision and the rest of us mods were just left out of the loop ... well then ... I'm just kinda at a loss for words then ... and apologies for voicing my opinion on the matter.

Are you familiar with GM Fullsize?

A truck forum that I am on has an 18+ section. Yes, there are still rules. No illegal images, activities, content, etc. It helps keep things locked down over there.

Sent from the land of teepee's and buffaloes

Yep, got a LOT of good advice on that forum.
