Sorry if I was out of line. It just seems the laws of someone breaking into your house (armed or not) should carry over to your land. It is mentioned on here all the time that the law allows us to defend our homes with deadly force. Seems like it would be equal or even a greater offence in the eyes of the law if a person knowingly entered someones property armed with a high powered hunting rifle.

I was just wanting to here what some of the hunters and land owners here thought.

Thanks,
Kw

Have had poachers take my game as well. I was pissed but never thought about shooting anyone for it. Its just an animal.

Those laws do carry over to your land, if your life is in danger. Someone poaching a deer on your property doesn't put you in danger until or unless they point their firearm at you / in your direction, in which case you have legal grounds to defend yourself with deadly force.

I caught some poachers on my ranch one time. I relieved them of their rifles, told them to call the sheriff and I would be waiting for them at his office.

Also told them that when they get their rifles back, I 'd like for them to explain to the sheriff why they were trespassing and illegally hunting on my property. Could also claim that I might feel like I was in fear of my life....but didn't. Just wanted to put more fear in them!!!

Especially since two years before I had a talk with the sheriff on HOW to place signs on my property to prevent this.

Before they left, I reminded them to read the NO Trespassing signs placed EVERY 100 yards on my entire 160 acres!! This is what the sheriff and game ranger instructed that I do. I also reminded them that if ANY of my cattle or horses were wounded by a gun shot.......It would be THEM, that I was going to hold responsible!!!!!

I DETEST POACHERS!!!!!
