Well its not really a problem, more of an annoyance.

After my most recent payment, I now owe Ms. Sallie a grand total of $0.23 in student loans. Yes yes, go me. I have tried to pay that online but when I do I get an error saying that my payment must be at least $1.00 When I tried to make a payment of $1.00, it gave an error saying I could not overpay my outstanding principal. Go figure. I will have to wait until Monday to call them.

Does anyone here know if Sallie Mae will do a small balance write-off? that's what I was going to ask for but didn't want to waste my time on whatever government ******* I happened to get on the phone. I suppose I could mail in a check for twenty-three cents but that seems kind of wasteful for both me and them. I am sure it will cost a helluva lot more to process the payment than the payment actually is.

Anyone got any idea on this?

Let it go past due. Then you'll owe the $0.23 and a $20 service charge. Then you can pay it because it will be more than $1.00.

I'm kidding of course. I would think they would let you pay that off over the phone.

I paid off a bunch of credit card when I retired and had a little trouble doing it cause if the bal. was 100.00 I mailed a check for a 100.00, The next statement would be for 1.00 and change or whatever because of interest acrued in the time it took for my payment to get to them, I learned to send them about a buck or so over that amount, now I have a credit on most of my old accounts and they have spent a lot of money sending me statements to that effect

Funny how the money they owe us doesn't collect interest.

To the OP...I have one of those beautiful letters somewhere from Sallie Mae telling me that I now owe them nothing. Believe me...it's worth the check, the stamp and the few minutes to send it off.
