I think 20 is pretty low. On the other hand 100 is pretty high. Maybe somewhere in the middle? 40-60 posts plus a certain amount of time? What about limiting their classified privileges to where they can only have one post in the classifieds at a time until they reach a certain threshold?

I've been a member of this site for awhile now and I don't post a lot, I' ve more so this year, but I'm on here every day. I think raising the post count to 100 is a little excessive. How about 50 posts and be a member for 3 months?

We have received a lot of PMs from members requestiong we raise the minimum post count to post in the classifieds from 20 to 100 (some even suggested 200-500). I think some sort of modification is in order. However, it would not impact folks who have registered before the effective date of the rule.

What say you guys and gals?

Again, this will NOT impact current users with less than 100 posts.

I think that something might be in order, but I also can see both sides of the coin (as well as the rim) here.

Raising it to 100 posts, I think is a bit steep. Just because someone hasn't hit 100 posts doesn't mean that they are not trustworthy or able to offer us a good deal. Even at 20 posts, unless someone posts and then answers their posts, it does take some effort to get there.

Personally, I'd like to see some sort of EASY way to leave and view feedback. A direct link on the left hand side under the user's name. Something that shows number of feedbacks and a direct link to the feedback area to read AND LEAVE feedback. It really can be a pain in the a$$ to find feedback on folks.

I do agree that there has to be a minimum number of posts before you can post in the classifieds. There are some who just jump in for that feature alone.

While on the subject of classifieds, one of my big beefs with it is the "My friend has this item that they'd like to sell." I've seen it both ways on the board. I've tried to post a good deal for the board, but it was my friend who wanted to sell it. Well, because I didn't own the firearm, the forum missed out on a GREAT deal and I got my wrist slapped. I couldn't take possession of the firearm because I am an FFL and that would have involved paperwork, but putting two people in touch with other would have been good for both parties.

And I've also seen the flip side of that where people have said "my friend has a bunch of stuff for sale and this is what it is." And the posts sit without a problem.

There needs to be consistency. And there needs to be leeway. Someone might be an up and coming source of "good stuff" and might not post it because of the minimum posts requirements.

I don't know.

Need the wisdom of Solomon.

It doesn't matter what you change, you'll still have complaints from some of these folks around here. Some people just live to complain.

I'd say 50 posts is a good number. Large enough to weed out those who take advantage, small enough to seem reasonable to new members.

I agree. And the classifieds should not even be visible to those that are not logged in. Also invisible to those that don't meet the minimum requirements.

I like this idea. I've had some send me a PM on an item, and they only have single digit posts. If they weren't allowed to see them, they couldn't circumvent the system as easily.

I don't have a problem with the 20 meaningful post requirement.
If someone can't add 20 meaningful post then they probably aren't interested in being a member.
All the post don't need to be some giant knowledge of firearms info.
There's tons of discussions on here on all kinds of subjects someone could add value to.

If I remember correctly this post count thing was brought on by a few dubious scam artist.
I can't remember all the circumstances though.
