Last DUI check I went through, I rolled down my window as I was pulling up, made eye contact, and was waved through without stopping.
Funny, but I've never seen "Jerk" on a Use of Force Continuum matrix.
A bear is a simple-minded creature who runs mostly on instinct, not logical thought. I'd like to think police officers have better control over their behavior.I might have the "right" to poke a bear with a stick, but I don't think that would show much common sense either. If I did it out of ignorance it might be excusable, but if I did it with full knowledge and the expectation (perhaps even desire) for harm to myself I'd have no one else to blame but ... yep, myself.
Yes, it's only a minor act of genuflection to the state, so we should just shut up and comply.Perhaps - but intentionally provoking a confrontation by refusing an act as simply accomplished as rolling down one's window seems well beyond the bounds of "common sense" to me. And yes, I'm guessing that was the motive because there's no other clear reason I can see to have had a camera already set up in place and recording.
Police check points are worthless. Everyone is considered guilty until proven innocent. Ridiculous.
And the old "If you haven't anything to hide, you have nothing to fear" argument is complete crap. Police manpower is better used elsewhere. This is still the home of the free. I won't trade my freedom for an ounce of false security provided by local/state police agencies or the incompetent and corrupt DHS or TSA at these random checkpoints.
And people wonder why there is so much hatred for LEO's. For every good one there are 100 that are scum of the earth. They forgot long ago what their actual role is and who they work for. We should apply the same level of zero tolerance aimed at my kids when they eat a Pop Tart at school to wannabe storm troopers on power trips like these guys and maybe it would get better eventually.
So now we need justification to exercise our rights? That's quite the slippery slope you're on there.
Think your numbers are backwards there. Many more good ones than bad ones.
There is also the need for common sense. This kid was clearly looking for a problem. Doesn't excuse the douchey reaction of the cop, but geez, the kid was out to provoke someone.
