Depends... some times I shake the cut grass and dirt out my hulls.

My MEC presses resize the brass at the first station. In my shotguns (11-87, 870 and M12 Winchester) that seems to be enough. I have a gage (MEC sells a plate with holes in it that checkes hull diameter)... I double check my finished shells with that before I box them up.

You can get some tools that re-condition the crimp area.... but most of my reloading is AA Winchesters... when they split - I toss em. After all... when you can get 7 or 8 reloads out of a hull ... it's time to pitch em anyway

NO.
first station pushes out old primer and resizes the brass.

second station pushes in new primer and drops the powder.

i do not do any prep. shotgun reloading is pretty easy.

never have any problems with shell going into my guns.
