Yeah, I'm not thinking of any particular sheriff. Making a comment directed at all those who think state and county control/authority is the end-all, be-all of liberty. Seems to me the state and county authorities in this case are pretty much worthless.

If the state owns the land and they disagree with the BLM management of it, state authorities should be standing up.

Read back... we are and have been for years... all 7 states. Bryan Sadoval has been trying to negotiate with feds ever since he took office.

Bundy said his family has been working the land in Clark County since before Nevada was granted statehood. He said that the federal government has no right to own land that rests within a sovereign state based on the constitution.

“It’s really about our constitutional rights and statehood,” he said. “And whether this area known as the state of Nevada is owned by the United States government or is owned by the sovereign state of Nevada.”

Despite Bundy’s claim that the federal government has no right to charge fees to land that is owned by the state of Nevada, BLM Public Affairs Specialist said that the U.S. government unequivocally owns public lands, and that Bundy is subject to two federal court orders to remove his cattle from said lands.

She said that Bundy is in violation of both orders, and that he left the BLM no choice, but to confiscate the estimated 908 head of cattle.

“The United States government owns and has broad authority to regulate federal lands in Nevada,” Cannon said. “In response to challenges of federal ownership of the lands in Nevada, the 9th circuit held that the federal government owned all federal lands in Nevada, and that those lands did not pass to the state upon statehood.”

So, in regards to this case, who actually owns the property? The State of Nevada, with administration and oversight of the BLM?

If it is state land, have any of Bundy's legal cases been heard in State court? If not, I'm switching sides to "BLM can go pound sand" and "Team Bundy".

Where's the almighty County Sheriff that so many seem to get all erect about?

I'm wondering who the hell owns it now too. Just saw Hannity on the tube say that "it's not BLM land" and the way the feds got involved were the turtles which has been pretty much debunked. Not the validity of the court orders mind you, just the pretext that the turtles still need protection has been debunked. I'm wondering if you are right and the county/state did farm out administration to BLM. Is BLM charged with enforcement of the Endangered Species Act?

Keep in mind, it's not the federal government claiming the turtles are the reason, it's Bundy making that claim.
The government claims it's because he hasn't paid grazing fees for 20 years.

Yeah, I'm partially sympathetic to Bundy, but the "My family has been grazing this land since XXX" doesn't work for me.

Who owns it. Who has legal authority over it? If it's the State, the people should be lined up in front of the State capitol demanding action.

I agree.

It sounds like BLM has always had possession of the land and Bundy and some others are making a sovereign citizens like claim that when Nevada became a state ALL federal lands passed into the hands of the state.
The federal courts have rejected that.

Lots of claims and counter claims though
