I'm guessing that since the federal government took possession of the land from the indians by "evolving it out of chaos" they have had that land ever since.
That's probably why they think of it as federal land.

So, in regards to this case, who actually owns the property? The State of Nevada, with administration and oversight of the BLM?

If it is state land, have any of Bundy's legal cases been heard in State court? If not, I'm switching sides to "BLM can go pound sand" and "Team Bundy".

Where's the almighty County Sheriff that so many seem to get all erect about?

according to some reports the BLM has been kicking people off the public lands and leasing them to the oil & gas industry, so much for giving two shits about the desert tortoise. I saw an article but it was on natural news and in my experience their view is often very skewed. I've got no issue with frackings and drillings and what have yous, but I do have a huge issue with the govt overstepping their authority and ginning up a scapegoat. The rancher has made himself an easy target but that still doesn't change my opinion. The BLM are really wearing their Brown Shirts proudly!

!

I don't see where oil and gas production has jack to do with this. Fracing and oil production can go on side by side. In fact the oilfield activity could do nothing but help the cattle producer with access roads and the like.

See 108... clark county has a liberal sheriff.

Read back... the courts have set precedent that states own their real estate. Maybe your thinking of Maricopa county Arizona... Joe would be off the hook over this

Nevada is not Arizona or Eastern California

Yeah, I'm not thinking of any particular sheriff. Making a comment directed at all those who think state and county control/authority is the end-all, be-all of liberty. Seems to me the state and county authorities in this case are pretty much worthless.

If the state owns the land and citizens of said state are being manhandled by out of control policies, then state authorities should be standing up.
