I think we have a growing problem with people who feel they are entitled to get something from the gubment for free.

I am sure I am not the only person on this forum opposed to this entitlement mentality.

Get those cattle out of there.

Possibly. But in this case at least the dude is a productive member of society who is only consuming a renewable resource, unlike the illegal aliens and welfare squatters that are consuming our tax dollars.

If the BLM wants to protect a piece of land send them to the southern border.

There's no possibly about it.
He believes he is entitled to feed his cattle grass that grows on land that is owned and managed by taxpayers.

I didn't know we had special rules for people entitled to use renewable resources on public land.

So here is where I stand. I don't care if the rancher is wrong or right, the actions and attitude of the BLM is disgusting and wrong and EXCUSE ME? Free speech zones? WTF?! Welcome to tyranny, this is a blatant case of it. Intimidation through force, flexing their sniper muscle over some ****ing cows and tortoises, whatever, this stinks to high heaven and personally I think the feds and their puppets enforcing and threatening people who have rightfully assembled should go straight to hell.
just an observation : it irritates me that everyone is calling them federal lands, they belong to the public, we are the public, If we would stand up and tell them to piss off instead of bowing down and saying yes master this **** wouldn't happen.

This is a lot how I look at this situation. Yes the rancher has been grazing cattle in violation of law for decades, so have a judge order the LOCAL sheriff to impound the animals and make the rancher pay the cost of round-up/impoundment to get them back. I have to pay to graze my stock so this rancher should also. HOWEVER, the OVERWHELMING show of force tactic that BLM and Feds have chosen to employ is totally inappropriate. Yeah BLM lands are Federal land, but adding all these Feds from OUTSIDE only escalated this situation. Whoever from Federal Gov't or BLM who ordered this needs to be fired! Federal Govt flexing its muscle in order to 'show' what they can do (snipers, are you kidding?), is ridiculous. We all know the script that comes next, the Rancher is a CRAZY Tea Party/veteran/Conservative/NRA member and they had to use night vision, snipers, UAV's, Deadly Force etc to insure the safety of the cattle wranglers. By the by, I heard this morning a news blurp that they had taken rancher into custody, I don't actually have a problem with that IF it was some sort of Nevada Law Enforcement and IF it was for grazing his cattle on public lands in violation of a court order. The OVERWHELMING show of force is a warning to ALL citizens who have a beef with the feds, nothing more.

Believe or not, there are.

ETA: in many cases we actually pay ranchers to graze public lands.

Time to saddle up and put your money where your mouth and keyboard are.

Get on out there and stand with this "honest rancher" to face down "the Feds", if you're man enough.

The flipside of this is all of the cattle ranchers who followed the law and moved their herds off of the federally protected (free) land and have been paying for either hay to be brought in or moved to a place where they probably have to lease the land.

according to some reports the BLM has been kicking people off the public lands and leasing them to the oil & gas industry, so much for giving two shits about the desert tortoise. I saw an article but it was on natural news and in my experience their view is often very skewed. I've got no issue with frackings and drillings and what have yous, but I do have a huge issue with the govt overstepping their authority and ginning up a scapegoat. The rancher has made himself an easy target but that still doesn't change my opinion. The BLM are really wearing their Brown Shirts proudly!

edited to add this blurb straight from the BLM website:

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2013, the BLM generated $4.7 billion in receipts from public lands.

Looks like those tortoise hating grass eating cows have realllly hurt the blm income!
