It was funny because his boss called him his token African American.

Haha! That is a hoot! I love it when you actually have coworkers who have the same moral compass you do. When I worked at the gun store I was the only woman on the range side. In fact I was the only woman in the front of the house. There was a black guy who worked on the range with us. I wanna say at the time he was the only black guy in the whole store. We joked around all the time that we were their tokens so we couldn't be fired. Lmao! All the other guys -- your average white fellas :rollingla -- used to tell us all the time they were gonna go to the tanning booth for their dinner break ... a couple of them joked about becoming drag queens so they could get preferential treatment. Man, we had some really inappropriate conversations that had us ALL rolling in the floor in tears we were laughing so hard. Nowadays we'd all probably be standing around wondering who'd be gonna file the lawsuit for hostile work environment first.

it is a good place to start, but the events will just shift to a different location, which will still effect the groups of people. Carrying guns in school is not going to do anymore good than gun control. The events will shift to the school bus, then the bus, stop, then to the mall, parking lots, or parties.
If we are only worried about making schools safe, then armed teachers and parents is the solution. However, if we are worried about making our children safe we need to fix the uncontrolled self-promotion ideology that is causing the problem.

All these other places are no different than schools. They are filled with potential victims. Mass murderers need victims regardless of whatever their motive might be. Without victims, they have nothing. Disarmed people are potential victims regardless of wherever they are located. There is no absolute solution, but armed people are the best deterrent and the first best people to respond in these situations, be it in the schools, on the busses, at the buss stops, malls, parking lots, parties, and any other place where people gather.

Armed people will not prevent someone from attacking(nothing can do that), but they can certainly stop someone making an attack - even if it is someone driving a truck into a crowd.

IED's are something else altogether. Vigilance is the best play in that circumstance. Know your surroundings, know human behavior.

Woody,
My point is that arming people, which I agree with, is a reaction to a social issue. It does nothing to prevent future occurrences.

And I shall reiterate: Nothing can prevent these instances from happening. Armed people might deter someone or send them on to a different venue, but all that can be counted upon is armed people to stop them. I can't think of a more socially responsible stance to take than to be armed in defense of one's self, loved ones, and fellow countrymen - regardless of whatever the cause.

That said, addressing the "social issues" involved might some day clue in enough people that our children need to develop a conscience in their formative years - from birth to about 6 years old. Until then, don't leave home unprepared to do battle with someone engaged in deadly socially unacceptable behavior.

We absolutely can do things to prevent schools shootings, society is just not brave enough to do it.

Exactly. And the person who so adamantly informed me I was too white to know what real rascism was is also the one touting how impressed you will be with "tan" if only you will step away from YOUR prejudice and give it a try.

I'm all for discussion of difficult topics, but let's not be disingenuous about it. White folks aren't the only ones with prejudices or stereotypes. Women aren't the only gender with anger issues or assholes. Oh ... and I don't know WHAT to do about vegans. :anyone:

Vegans are just weird!! Not eating meat!! WTH!!

And arming the people will protect from the social issues while our leadership sits around debating everything but the issue!!
I said I agree with arming teachers. Voters can force legislation in Oklahoma, without the state legislature via a referendum.

My sister in-law is a lesbian and vegan. I do not understand how someone can be a vegan and lesbian at the same time, if they are having sex.
