Sooner, the only pain surrounds some sporting events. Get a good HD antenna and be amazed at the difference between HD over-the-air and cable. You might also look at the most recent Apple TV...$99 isn't bad.

Mostly, just enjoy the massive (comparatively, that is) savings and spend it on something OUTDOORS with the family!

I ditched my subscription TV years ago and went to rabbit ears with a converter; I now have an outdoor antenna mounted in the attic. As the cable splitter is already in the attic with the cables run from that to all the wall outlets, I just ran the antenna's cable to the splitter - presto, OTA reception merely by plugging the TV's cable into the wall outlet. The reception on the major channels is very good to excellent. I do miss a couple of channels that I had before, but nowhere near enough to justify the hundreds of dollars I was shelling out each year.

I just dumped Cox for Dish and it has been great so far. More/better channels for half the price. Still have to have Cox for internet, but we lowered that to the lower plan to save even more money since we don't use for anything other than surfing the web.

I quit cable last year. I really don't miss it. Now I get out more, and am more involved in the community. There's a whole world outside, it lies beyond our TV sets.

If you haven't already got a keyboard/mouse solution , give this a try. It's got really small buttons, but if you can text on any new phone you should be able to hit them fine.

I have been using it with my media PC and I'm quite happy. It's just big enough to type/mouse with and still small enough to cram into the couch cushions. I haven't had to drag out the full size keys in months.

I figure i will ride this as long as i can. Now on the other hand i don't have internet yet what is a good one that woln't break the bank? Cox? Windstream? Uverse is not offered in my area so go there.

Fixed: Apple TV $99 one time. Purchase and installation (in attic) of GOOD antenna and digital boxes: Maybe $500 tops one time. Total fixed costs - $600.

Variable: NetFlix $9/month. Digital TV: Free / month. Total variable costs: $9/month

Voila, between them, most everything you'd want and more (except live sports) for $15 a month if fixed costs are amortized over 10 years. Forget the digital TV and it's $10.83 / month over 10 years.

This is what's known colloquially as a no brainer.

It has been 15+ years or more that I fired the cable guy. We are very happy without it. I think more people should get rid of that bill, but we are free to spend as we wish.
