cut the cable over rude customer service ... was soooo glad I did.
like being addicted ... withdrawal symptoms soon showed itself.

hold out and soon you find being without is not that big a deal.
was going to install dish networks to replace cable. but ended up not doing that either.

it's been five + years now without cable ... thank you rude cable customer service!

I'm going to be cutting my cable at the end of the month myself. Looking forward too it! Getting an Apple TV to use for the netflix. Gonna cut about $85 off our bill per month. We will still have telephone and internet through them though. I play a lot of online gaming and I can't stand the DSL so I'm stuck with Cox Cable for the interwebs.

Still considering doing this and now have a brother-in-law that is joining me in consideration. Our conversation today prompted a good question: when you cut your provider what do you use to substitute the DVR? That is a luxury that I would definitely miss so it has to be considered.

The wife and I decided on the Apple TV. We've talked about it and what shows we miss during the week, we will just buy on the Apple TV for .99 per show. We still save a ton of money this way. We are enjoying watching Netflix on the Apple TV too. The picture and sound quality with a good broadband connection is very good. So far we've been very happy with our setup.

Cut the cable off last Friday... have a Roku (about $70) on the way to use with my old tv to watch internet shows, including netflix....

Also for the local channels I had to buy a convertor box and anntenna off ebay which was another $60.

Depends on what you watch. In my case all of the programs that I watch are posted for free the next day on the network websites. Seeing as I set up a wireless computer in my entertainment center and connected it to my television via HDMI, I simply watch the programming on my television the day after it airs via internet, no DVR needed. After all, if the network is paying for the storage space, there's no reason I should.

If you MUST have a DVR, there are several commercial DVRs out there that you can use. (Tivo, etc) Even if you're using a computer as a media center like I am, you can find DVRs that are the size of large flash drives that connect via USB. For macs, the elgato line are highly recommended.
