If the Police had not been there in the first place, none of this would be going on. Police should stay out of that area unless a resident calls them in on a disturbance. Get the Police out of there, it's just adding fuel to the flame. If the residents want to burn the area where they live, let them.
It's all about discernment and perspective. Jaywalking leads to burning everything down so where do you draw the line? Where?

From the link OMB gave us last night on the invocation of a no fly Zone:

"Reason for NOTAM: TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES"

That was about news helicopters.

Now they're arresting reporters in the street.

That line of reasoning is disturbing on multiple levels.

Listen to this:

The community anger in Ferguson appears to have been latent for quite some time in the city, which has mostly African-American residents but very few African-American public officials. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Ferguson’s police chief and mayor are white. Of the six City Council members, one is black. The local school board has six white members and one Latino. Of the 53 commissioned officers on the police force, three are black, said Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson."

So let me see if I get the gist of this. The city is predominantly black, but they're pissed that they haven't elected or hired black public officials? Seriously, you're too damned lazy to elect people who best represent the makeup of your community and it's whitey's fault? :screwy:

What if we forgot history ( as we are sometimes, but not always , want to do) and just looked at a particular cause and effect situation? An admittedly unarmed man is walking down the street and (according to admittedly unreliable witnesses who are unreliable for various reasons that I cant really discuss on OSA) was shot down in the street with his hands in the air. If you're the police, don't you at least want to "make a show" of considering their testimony? Shouldn't you, at the very least, interview them?
I mean, sure, they're black and all, but shouldn't you at least pretend to listen to them?

That's the thing: not all of these rioters are local. Some of them are burning down someone else's neighborhood.

And you're ok with just letting these people burn down other people's shops, harming their livelihood?

No. Kind of like equal opportunity. Let's get some black Police officers on the force. Maybe from that area. Let's have them work with the community and project a positive image of Law Enforcement.

That sounds more like wanting equal results than equal opportunity.

This town is already about 2/3 black, and they have not seen fit to elect officials that reflect demographic, and those same people have not applied for/successfully made into police force. And now this same group is complaining about their own lackadaisical tendencies.

How about placing blame where belongs.
