Hey yall, I should probably let this go, but.....I'm not whining about killing critters, I've killed and eaten bout everything that slithers crawls flies or walks on all fours at one time or another, insect mammal or reptile or whatever. If you read my other posts you know I'm about as redneck as you can get. I don't understand though why the possum had to be put down? Just because it was somewhere it wasn't wanted to be? Or just because it existed? Guess I'm just a little aggravated like one of yall'd be if somebody killed one of those funny looking little dogs or a worthless cat for being in their yard. But the doc did what she thought was right, and I don't have any right to judge anybody. To each his own.

Oh... I thought your previous post was a joke, or I would have responded to it.
It was living right under the porch, and remodeling same for it's own purposes.
There was concern about what would happen if the dogs DID catch it and would the dogs get hurt.
Also, the dogs had started tearing up the place trying to get to it.
There was concern about external and internal parasite (worms for instance, in a host they're not meant for, can absolutely ruin your health).
If it had been living out under the barn, I don't think anyone would have cared. If we could have found a way to evict it to location away from the house, that would have worked too.
There's all kinds of wildlife out here, and we don't really mind it, as long as it doesn't try to move in with us.
I thought your mom was going to try to hit the possum with the flashlight.
Good story, I'm afraid my big dog would have run at the sound of the shot, as well. Poor dog was severely mistreated before I got her form the pound.

Yep. He's a sweetie. A nice medium size mutt. If people ask, I tell them he's a purebred Oklahoma Black Dog - closely related to the Oklahoma Yellah Dog and the Oklahoma Spotted Dog.
Looks like a sweetheart. The best dog's I've ever had were mut's! I've had a few purebreads and they have all had some kind of health issue.
