I was at a cowboy shoot in Canyon Texas and was shooting from the hip, all the contestant/players were to have a cowboy name, they started calling me “hipshot” I told them I didn’t want that name because there was a crazy SOB from my hometown about 60 miles south that everyone knew as Hipshot and it was his name, the more I protested it the more they called me that, So… fast forward a few years and I move to N.E. Oklahoma and figured nobody here knew the original and he also died so now I’m Hipshot !!!
My old team roping partner and I were on a big ranch in southern Oklahoma helping train some horses. I became fond of the ranchers daughter and he told me his daughter wasn't going to date a saddlebum like me........he was wrong. Didn't last long, first time she picked me up in her G wagon I realized I couldn't afford her. The name stuck though

I'm not as creative. My last name "Parks" and "788" is the model of my favorite little rifle i had at the time. Rem 788 Carbine in 7m-08. A short, heavy, ugly little rifle that is more accurate then I'll ever be able to shoot.
Ranger was the name of a brittnay I had. Rick was nickname wife called him, great hunter and special dispostion, later in his life became wifes dog, he followed her everywhere. Go figure!
