Based on her comments, she will not sign a constitutional carry bill if presented to her. This I personally agree with. I like knowing that folks with felonies and those deemed mentally unstable can't get a license to carry. JMPO.....

Those with felonies are already ineligible to possess a firearm in OK, as are those adjudicated mentally incompetent by a court of law. Point of order on the felony thing, that's not a federal law and varies from state to state.

So they'll just carry illegally like they do now, and you can continue to beg your betters for permission to exercise your rights.

I'm of two minds on this. After the qualified win in Heller, SCOTUS seems to lean towards some regulations of 2A rights as acceptable, just not an outright or effective ban. While I'd love to see constitutional carry with no permits, mandatory training or fees throughout the US, I can see that as trouble for our rights. With rights come responsibilities. One cannot survive without the other. Having a permit and training standards, increases the overall awareness of the carrier and logically reduces the occurrence of irresponsible behavior on their part. It doesn't eliminate it, but it reduces them to a level tolerable to the general non gun toting public.

Another thought for open carry, and another reason I won't, is that with a weapon displayed, anyone who is carrying openly is inviting police officers to ask to see one's permit.

Well I paid enough for that card, so someone ought to see it! :) Seriously, if the officer is professional and the OC'er is reasonable, it should be a good contact. If not, it's an educational opportunity for one or both of them.

Yes and that gives a citizen the chance to exercise his right to ask the offending officer to produce his commission card and CLEET certification card.

There's a difference between what you can do, and what you should do. Please don't alienate the LEO's during a contact. It will only hurt the rest of us. If a LEO is unprofessional or misinformed on the law during a stop, report it to their supervisor, preferably as a training issue. Creating or escalating an adversarial situation during a stop will only work against you and everyone the LEO contacts after you under similar circumstances.

So if I show it to an irate driver??

I wouldn't show it. However, if it's spotted during an incident of any type, you should be on your best behavior and utilize your tools of de-escalation. It's a good idea for any person carrying a firearm for defense to research "use of force continuum", particularly if you can locate the model used by law enforcement agencies in your area. You'll then have a better understanding of how a responding officer might view your actions in the chain of events and better protect yourself from legal jeopardy. The use of force continuum is an often misunderstood tool. I think I'll try to post a thread specifically on this in the next couple of days.

I didn't read all seven pages so this may have been brought up, you will probably see a lot more no firearms signs going up. So now what??

Now you'll have a better idea of where to spend your money and where not to. As has been stated, some signs will go up, but probably not a lot. Some of those signs will later be removed when blood doesn't run in the streets. It's an adjustment period and what we do as gun toters will have a significant impact on how well that adjustment period goes.

The more polite, professional and patient we act during this period, the smoother it will go. The more we flaunt it in people's faces, the worse it will be. Starting these conversations with a smile and some understanding of their concerns will go a long ways. :)

So when you are concealed, the only places off limits were those specifically outlined in the SDA. Businesses could and did put up the No Gun sign, however if concealed, it only meant you had to leave when confronted and printing...

Now with OC, you will be spotted as soon as you walk in the door and those No Gun signs will keep you out or keep your gun in your car. Funny thing is, we gun owners and 2A supporters will be discriminated against even more when we have out guns on our hips and are LEO's...

So do we band together and do our best to not support those businesses, push ahead and get the LEO questions, or something else?

I know several banks have signs, whereas others don't. What about places like QT? Didn't they openly state they don't want 2A supports as their customers if we are carrying? How will Wal-Mart work with this? In the past they have stated they have no policy that goes against state laws with regards to the 2A.

Then you have other stores that are visited and dining out with the family? I see this being an interesting time for all 2A supports and hard time for those who chose to OC.

Just my thought...

I guess I missed the QT statement of not wanting 2A supporters as customers. I may have to consider a new place to stop for coffee.

I don't shop at walmart, I go into qt rarely and can certainly begin using another convenience store of that's a problem.

When the signs go up I will deal with businesses that erect them in the same manner that I deal with them now. They just won't get my business.

I have a killer tv and surround sound setup. Movie theater policies mean I don't go to the cinema. They don't want me carrying so I don't want to contribute dollars to them.

It's not hard to do folks, but it takes a little lifestyle adjustment. For the longest time my bank did not have a gunbuster sign. I went in one day and they had a sign. I called the main branch and actually got a call back from some vp. I explained that though I might only walk into their lobby maybe once or twice a year that the next time I went to enter their property if they had a no gun sign I would quit doing business with them.

I just hope whole foods doesn't pst a sign.

One thing I've seen done by KWTV-9, FOX-25, and KOCO-5 is fail to report that this law doesn't go into effect until November 1st. Even just about 10 minutes ago on KOCO they reported "today marks the first full day that Oklahoma citizens can legally carry a gun in the open."

The last thing we need is people with a current SDA license seeing these reports and thinking it's OK to carry openly right now. All that will do is cause problems and potentially stack the odds against us. Is this their intention?
