Was it 1733 that prohibited municipalities from charging OC'rs with disturbing the peace, public nuisance etc or 2522? Without that prohibition I can see some cities and towns having their police forces doing just that.
I cannot find the exact protections in 1733. They were posted on here but were they not a part of changes to another law? I am trying to find them so that I may print the entire clause out for reference.

And you are probably correct. The added language is there to preclude or discourage an officer from simply disarming a person or restraining him as a punitive thing on a OC stop.

As I read it ... you can be disarmed for "officer safety" on a CC stop ... I don't have a problem with that as long as it's not simply an officer hassling a legal citizen.

That being said... the right the officer has to demand a permit will short circuit some of the dumb stuff we see in YOU Tube videos were "militant" OCers have to make a point because their state laws are not clear. (MO can be a hassle in KC Metro and St Louis because of this issue)

Actually a closer reading of 1733 cites an order of events. The officers demands a SDA card. If that card is produced he cannot disarm or detain you simply for having a open gun. He can if he suspects nefarious activity.

An Open Carry person is in an alley shaking doorknobs... NO Card... yea-he's taking your gun... and probably thinking custody unless you have a good story. If that check out you get a fine for not having a card on you with the gun.
Not much different that it is now...

I am glad it passed, I will open carry on Nov. 1st all day for sure, After that probably depends on where I'm going or what I am wearing!!
Also... I think this has been the fastest growing thread I have ever seen!!!

Just my opinion, but if an officer stops me for whatever reason while OC(which I will never do unless hunting, that has always been legal) I will do what he requests, and if there is an issue I will take it up with his supervisor at a later date.
Bucking up to an officer on a stop and trying to argue your point is going to end up bad on your part.
Hopefully, the officer will get some education, and you will not be in the slammer for whatever reason they want to slap on you.

That brings up an earlier thread where a guy was asked to remove his CCW in view of the officers camera.
That could be dangerous, as it could be considered a draw, and give the officer the right to fire?
Way to many problems.

lets see...3% of your neighbors have the permit to do this... 7/8's of Oklahoma is dead quiet during the day.

If we assume that 1% of the 3% actually open carry... and SOMEONE actually sees a gun and calls it in....

I will assume you have no plausible experience in OC... The odds of seeing somebody walking with a gun is pretty low in places where it's allowed. In those placed were it does go noticed the officer rides by, makes contact, asks what's going on, reads the situation and goes to fight real crime.

I know of one case in Arizona where a New York City type freaked, called a cop on a OC person and ended up in jail for causing a scene.

Police will not refuse to provide service... but I can assure you that dispatchers will start asking "is it in a holster, and what's he doing right now?" When the caller says, "he's trying to decide "Tide" or "Bargain Brand"... oh God NO- he's picking up some Pepsi!", expect that call to go low priority.

I hate to disagree, but enough of the sheeple will be so busy with other crap they will have no idea OC is legal and will call 911. I agree most will probably be handled by dispatchers, but someone will call in hysterics. Heck how many threads have you seen about the way LEO's handle CC traffic stops? I've seen many.

I fully support open carry on a 2nd A stand point, I just don't think it's a practical way to carry for most people.. Also I open carry everyday for a living. I've run calls of accidental OC in the past, sheeple see guns and freak. At least now it's legal to let your shirt ride up!!

that's were polite and discrete open carry comes into play... and those manners make it work in the other states.

20 of us go into a place to eat... yea--- your gonna get some comments and maybe even a call for police service.

we will have some options... pull your shirt out and hide the gun,,, or wear guns that don't draw attention...

A black holster, dark trousers and a moderate gun will oftern go unoticed,,, as does a IWB with grip peek a booing over the belt. I have never drawn a second look... for guns...K frames, J frames... mid frame Glocks..even 1911's over the years.

The way the wrote this a person can still wear a "cover garment" over his firearm... but you wont have to be so anal about staying perfectly covered. I can see a lot of folks going OWB or shoulder holster under a shirt or light jacket where they might not have done so before.

Overall... 1733 has lotsa Win in it.

You may see a few signs go up... and they will come down soon enough. Didnt ya all play this set 16 years ago?
