Interesting if the details are accurate. Who in their right mind would think trying to storm a AFB is a viable option?
The same folks that tried to drive a truck into another military base saying they were from Amazon.
The same folks that are buying land next to military bases, the same people that came over our border and were released into the interior.
I think we both know who we are talking about and who caused it.

Less armed and ready personnel at military bases than just about anywhere else you can imagine.
Remember Ft. Hood?
Local police had to get there and shut that guy down..
Exactly. Most bases do not have armed security at their entrances. Not on their person. I'm confident there may be weapons in the gate house but most now use active deterrents at the gates to stop intruders. If they get through, there are secondary deterrents just on the other side.
We are eligible to take our RV on military bases and have done so on a regular basis as most have a facility to do so. I'm pretty observant on what security they have and it's not hard to find where they are.
I've hunted on the Macalester Army Ammunition Depot several times. When you get through the gate, there are vehicle stoppers on the creek after the gate for a secondary as an example.
It's not a secret deal, there are signs designating those blockades may come up. A thousand citizens that work there go through that gate daily.
When I was at my last duty station at Ft Leavenworth KS, the guards never showed a weapon and were there to pass one through with a minimal stop if one didn't have the bumper sticker on the front. You just got a solute with the sticker.
It takes a minute with a hair dryer to remove a sticker and move it to another vehicle to breeze through an entrance gate with a load of explosives if one were a terrorist.
We were there 5 years ago and went through the gates with just a view of my DL. (that shows I'm a vet)
There is a National Cemetary at Ft Leavenworth as well as the Command and Staff College where 1/3 of all field grade officers in all branches of the Military attend a college level course about the tactics of war.
I was amazed at the lack of security at that facility on our latest visit considering the amount of military senior brass in attendance.
With Tinker AFB employing hundreds, are the gate security personnel openly armed?

I never saw the gate security forces at Altus AFB when they didn't have a slung M4 and a handgun. As a matter of fact, a time or two I saw a Humvee type truck with a mounted gun behind the gate at Altus. I couldn't tell if it was occupied.

I spent a short time in both the ANG and AFR in Colorado in the 90s, both at Buckley and Peterson. I was assigned to security forces units at both and if we weren't doing some sort of training, we were always carrying at least a loaded M9, and depending on what we were doing, either had immediate access to an M16 (in a vehicle) or carried an M16.

I'd swear the last time I was at Tinker the gate guards were openly armed...but it's been a while and I've only been there a couple of times.

I'm retired military and I don't recall ever seeing an unarmed security guard. Even years ago when the mil experimented with rent a cops they were also armed. Between truly bad guys, some dude mad because a GI stole his girlfriend, to drunks or some gangbanger in the military there are lots of reasons some idiot would try and run a gate or take some shots. Probably more so now than ever with half the population being on drugs or just plain crazy. As retired military who travels around a bit I really wish our CCW would work on base but it does not. Pres Trump if I remember correctly signed something allowing carry on base but it was on the base commanders approval. Don't know if there was any bases that allowed carry on base or not.
