Someone I know went to Alaska on a hunting trip last month; he and his buddies were flown to their riverside camp in a small plane in this manner. He said it was the most white-knuckle experience of his life to look through the windshield of the descending plane and think "We're going to land there???"
For the PETA folks, you will be happy to know that only one salmon was killed making this film.
I find flight amazing although i don't care to fly and work on aircraft for a living.
Those are some amazing pilots and aircraft.
There are some shorter take off and landing aircraft, maybe not under those conditions, but those are very short.
They must have some heavy maintenance on those landing gear and airframe structure,
also they must go through a lot of tires.

The size of those tires make a difference against those big rocks. That pilot is good.
I bet they are not taking off with a 1000lbs of caribou in the cargo area.
