There's probably many that do this, but you're probably thinking of the garter snake, they're allover the place here.

Every one I get around oozes a substance if I can get close enough to it. Typically, from a head wound of some sort.

pretty much all of them can "musk" when they are pissed off or threatened. Or from the head wound that lillysdad created

If it makes noise, it's a Rattlesnake.

If it doesn't make noise, it's a Cobra.

Good snake to have around(don't kill) but make a lousy pet.They are just plain mean and will bite if you handle it.Had one for a while,quite a sight to see him go after a rat!!
