You draw your pattern first. Then trace it onto some tracing paper. Then lay your tracing paper over your leather and go over it with a rounded pointy
Object with light pressure and you will be able to see it on the leather to start cutting and tooling it.

well actually I just borrowed my buddies leather tools last night before I made this. I have read about it on the internet before when I wanted to make a motorcycle seat, but this is the first thing I have actually made besides just playing with scrap leather.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone it is pretty encouraging.

I envy those who have artistic talent like that. I'm lucky to be able to draw a stick figure, and that usually turns out pretty sloppy.

It's lookin really great. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Here it is after a coat of stain and some antiquing. I wish the stain would have let some of the shadows come through but it didn't O well. All that is left is to Burnish the edges and add the rivets.
