I guess I could ask my father in law to smoke some ribs. Definitely the best BBQ I've eaten. Would certainly be beer available too. Just might be kinda odd coming to a random guys house though.

I could bring the beer and ammo. Wouldn't bother me but those New Jersey guys might be tripping a tad bit...lol

I really like Swadley's in Mustang. They have excellent ribs and smoked turkey and brisket. They are good and it's consistent. I also think their sweet sauce is the best sauce on the planet. Bad Brad's is also good but not as consistent as Swadley's. Of course I hear Vans is very good too.

Just last weekend I ate at Toby Keith's. I had the ribs and they were pretty darn good. All the sides were very good too. That's the thing with a lot of the little mom and pop out of the way places, the sides can be flat weird or suck all together. Of course you can get beer at Toby's. Probably the kind of atmosphere you are looking for too.

Spencers is good. Swadleys is just a notch below Spencers and Toby's but good, doubt they serve beer.

It's been a while since I've had them but I always liked Cimarron's ribs.

If it were me I'd take them to Toby Keith's and be done with it. Ribs are good, sides are good and since your friends are rib novices they won't know the difference between those and some out of the way specialties some have mentioned.

If you're looking for brisket Mr Spriggs in Mid West City and Swadley's are my favorite.

When I dont cook for myself, here is my order:

#1 - JT's BBQ in Del City

#2 - Vans Pig Stand in Norman

#3 - Ray's Smokehouse BBQ in Norman

Leo's and Earls are crap IMHO.

I had van's burger after a few of you guys recommended it was overpriced and basic. If there bbq is anything like that burger I will pass on that as well.

This is off topic but bunny's burgers has a BADASS chili cheese dog (as of a year or two ago) add some onion rings and it is fast food nirvana.

I USED to work at Wilson Foods in the 70's, ACTUALLY pulling Ribs on the cut floor at one time. :-) It doesn't matter where, as much as what meat they have to work with. Some slabs are good and some are bad = NO meat that can be seen. That being said, and you want to stay in "S. Meridian" area, go to H&H and get a burger! JUST kidding. Earl's sounds closest and can have a few beers. But Bedlam BQ at NE 50th, just E of Lincoln, kicks butt, but not a place to hang with a few buds, drink beer and BS for awhile. And also closes early. NO one has said (that I saw) Iron Star = upscale BQ, is how they advertise, but ribs ARE good! And sides are all spicey and good to great. It is NW 36th and Shartel. Leo's has sucked the last 2 times I've been there (2 years ago) SO I quit going. A few co-workers and myself took 2 consultants to Iron Star yesterday (Same thing = IN OK WANT BQ) They had ribs and loved them. Another co-worker says Swadley's. A friend says Jacks (NW 39th E of Meridian) So like I said hit and miss on the rib slab, and depending on cooking preference = dry rub or saucey.... Heck the beers should make any ribs good!! Stay at hotel, visit, drink, bring 3 slabs of ribs with a quart of slaw and a Qt of B Beans! :-) You'll have fun regardless = enjoy!
p.s. Go to Van's and support the local crew. :-)

What about Steve's Rib on the west side of Edmond?

We used to eat at Steves all the time in their old location. But, when they moved to their fancy new place and stopped counter service, we pretty much stopped going there. Quite often, we eat at Billy Simms BBQ down the street from Steves. Their loaded baked potatoes are world class.

Hope you're happy EdmaonM! You have now put an Earl's burger with Buffalo Sauce, and a BP from Billy's on my horizon! Thanks! (NOT from my wife) :-)
