semi-related side note- One of the coolest fighting knives is the Applegate-Fairbairn, which was the weapon of choice for the Devil's brigade, another kick-ass WWII movie. Lee Marvin uses one in Dirty Dozen.

A friend likes McQueen so much that he was recording Tom Horn on VCR many years ago and stopped the recorder after Tom escaped from jail leaving out the dreaded end. A few years ago his now adult son called and said "Hey Dad, Tom Horn didn't get away!!"
