Bingo! This is a White House.com, with people from all over the country signing it. A serious petition would have to be real signatures within the state of Texas presented to there state legislature. IMO.

if Texas were to ceceded from the Union....in 24 months spanish would be their national language and the drug cartels would own the new nation.....the cartels would finally have the ideal nation--perfectly located and they could take it by force of arms...the original citizens would become illegal immigrants flooding the neighboring states with refugees seeking political asylum, food,clothing and shelter (welfare).... GET A GRIP ....

Why would you care, if they're that dumb? Country oughtta be better off without them, huh? I'll go out on a limb here and predict that if this DOES happen (not that I really believe it will), Texas will see a surge in their economy, population of "desirable" workers and an overall improvement in spite of a few years of serious growing pains. I'm quite sure I wouldn't be the only one shopping for real estate....

Just my $0.02.

25,000 signatures is not "the will of the people" - it is very likely either the 25,000 most extreme people in Texas (on this issue) or a bunch of people who really haven't thought through what they are seeking or some combination. Put it to a State-wide plebiscite and it would fail...badly.

While I completely support the effort, I also laugh at it too.

A year ago when the Texas state congress was getting ready to pass a law banning the TSA from illegal sexual molestation(airport grope-downs), the Obama regime threatened to enact a ban on all air traffic in Texas and even threatened shooting down airplanes. Oklahoma National Guard was actually put on alert to march on Texas. All that just over some testicle grabbing.

Whatcha thing would happend if Texas really went for it and tried to secede ? It would get real ugly, real quick.

A few simple facts,

1) Oklahoma used to be a donor state and if oil and gas production keep increasing it will be again. So will many other red states.
2) If Texas did leave the union (not likely) many other states would follow and the rest of the USA would in just as bad a shape, if not worse then those states that left.
3) If Texas left peacefully, they would probably get to keep the military equipment stationed there. See the breakup of the Soviet Union as an example.
4) While this is basically just a protest at this time, I fully believe that if DC does not get it's act together and stop running over states rights, we will see it for real with the country being split into three separate countries or maybe three self ruled areas that join together for mutual defense.
