From the article:
"Agents traced the lower receiver of the gun Mr. Braziel sold to Mr. Ator to Mulehead Dans, a federally licensed firearm dealer in Lubbock. The owner of Mulehead Dans confirmed that Mr. Braziel often purchased lower receivers and firearms there."

Still doesn't make sense. They traced it back to Mulehead Dan's (how?) and Dan's guessed that Braziel bought it there?

I'm slow, help me out.

Don't worry.... there's no risk if you understand the market. Flip all you want, no limits.
lol, I was refering to risk of losing money. I never bought a gun with the intent to flip it, just always bought low and if I didnt like the gun, I'd sell it.
Now prove I even own any guns you snot nosed brat.
