That was my exact feelings when they said it... I almost think I just need to go get it and shove it back in the safe until I run across a double gun smith.
You do gotta wonder about some folks ... Man ... that's just all kinds of fooked up ...
Funny things happen, I once took a new Ford in for warranty because the blinkers quit, I suggested it was the flasher and went to the waiting room thinking it would maybe take 10 minutes, 2 hrs. later I went to see what the heck was taking so long, the mechanic had the steering wheel off and was flipping the turn signal lever up and down and nothing was happening, I asked if he had changed the flasher and he had but said it didn't fix it and he was stumped, about that time I noticed the ign. switch was off so I politely asked if it should be on. The look on his face said it all.
lol... It was a total shocker as this is "MY" go-to gunsmith. Have always used them, always done superb work.

You can tell if the firing mechanism is working without live rounds, pull trigger, "click"...
You need live rounds to validate the firing pin mechanism is functional.
Since they are your goto guys, and are trusted, perhaps you should make sure there isn't a communication issue.
